“When you are studying Jazz best thing to do is listen to records & live music as much you can & absorb everything.” Carla Bley – jazz pianist & composer
Monday December 10th, BJS members were at Music on the Mound, a full day of great music performed by students of at Barbados Community College Music Department. The jazz segment was brilliant. Ensembles (small big
bands) and combos (quintets & sextets) entertained the enthusiastic jazz audience with the music of Coltrane, Nicholas Payton, jazz pianist Adrian Clarke, Mongo Santamaria, and others. The learning curve with each performance was amazing to watch; one could just imagine how much each musician will improve as they gain more confidence and exposure.

The Mound is the grassy area outside the Performance Hall where there wascovered seating for the audience. The boys from St. Leonard’s Secondary School kept the audience well supplied with hotdogs, hamburgers, and delicious mauby, the proceeds of which will help to offset production costs.
The BJS applauds Music Department Director, Roger Gittens and tutors Stefan van den Bossche, Andre Woodvine, and David Carnegie for their dedication to keeping jazz alive in Barbados.
